2021 Calgary Junior Field Hockey U12, U14, U16, U18 Outdoor Spring League

Spring field hockey leagues will be running, starting April 14th and 15th.


CJFH Age Categories:

U18 Boys cohort born between Jan 1, 2003 and Dec 31, 2008

U18 Girls cohort born between Jan 1, 2003 and Dec 31, 2004

U16 Girls cohort born between Jan 1, 2005 and Dec 31, 2006

U14 Girls cohort born between Jan 1, 2007 and Dec 31, 2008

U12  Co-ed cohort born between Jan 1, 2009 and Dec 31, 2011


We will be running practice once a week, and games every Sunday (if AHS regulations permit). Schedule TBD due to COVID restrictions.

Prior to registering, please read the following protocols below on the COVID procedures to see if you or your athlete qualify.

Due to Alberta Health regulations, we can only run groups of 10 including the coach. We will set up a waitlist to help determine whether to open up more slots or not. Each training session is limited so please register as early as possible.

ALL athletes must follow the government of Alberta phase two COVID-19 guidelines for returning to sports and protocols established by FHA, FHC and coaches. Review the list below for the protocols you must adhere to prior to registering. It is critical that everyone abides by these rules for everyone’s health and safety.

  1. Maximum 10 athletes and coaches per group.
  2. Practices will be physically distanced, but all athletes must stick with their group of 10 for the entire season.
    1. Groups will not be switched at this point in time.
  3. Athletes are to maintain physical distancing off and on the field.
    1. They must maintain 2 meters (6.5 feet) of spacing.
    2. No contact allowed during practice.
  4. Masks must be worn at all times on and off the field.
    1. Except for when running around.
  5. ONLY athletes may attend the training.
    1. No spectators on the fields.
  6. Athletes are required to submit a daily COVID screening form (first thing in the morning prior to each session).

    2. It is recommended that drivers escort the athlete(s) to the entrance where a coordinator will greet the athletes, to make sure their health check form has been filled out.
    3. Athletes will not be permitted to practice if these forms have not been completed prior to practice.
    4. Please do this first thing in the morning.
    5. If anyone is feeling unwell, please notify us and stay at home.
  7. Athletes cannot share equipment, water bottles, etc. with each other.
  8. Athletes cannot touch FHA equipment, including balls, cones, etc.
  9. Change rooms are NOT available. 
    1. Athletes must arrive dressed and ready to practice before arrival.
  10. Washrooms are not always available for use, please use the facilities prior to attending practices.
  11. Arrive no earlier than 20 minutes prior to scheduled time(s), so come fully dressed and equipped.
    1. Athletes cannot enter the field until the previous group has left the field.
  12. Athletes must check in with the COVID officer at the entrance of the facilities prior to entering the field.
  13. Spectators are permitted as long as you:
    1. Do not enter the field.
    2. Keep clear of the entrance/exits unless you are checking in.
    3. Sit/stand beyond the perimeter of the field.
    4. Stay physically distance from other
    5. There is a security guard on hand, if he/she deems it unsafe, viewers must relocate.
  14. Wear masks when checking in your athlete and when interacting with coaches, athletes, people.

Calgary Junior League FAQ

Q: What equipment is required?
A: Athletes are required to wear a mouth guard and shin pads during practices and games.  A field hockey stick is also required and can be purchased from the FHA office for the season, and can be purchase online during registration.  

T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, jackets, shorts and athletic pants are recommended for games and practices.  All participants will be provided with at jersey for games and socks.  Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, games will go even if it is raining, they will only be cancelled for lightning.  Running shoes or field hockey turf shoes are required for games. Cleats damage the surface and are prohibited on turf.

Q: Can I rent a stick?
A: Due to the COVID, we are not renting sticks out at this time.

Q: Where can I purchase a field hockey stick?

Q: Where can mouth guards, shin pads or practice socks be purchased?
A: Most sporting good stores carry these items (Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Kicks, etc).  Call ahead to check availability.

Q: It is game day and it is raining out, will there still be a game?
A: Games will run during the rain and light snow, they will be cancelled if there is lightning or the conditions     become dangerous.

Q: It is raining and there is a practice scheduled, do we still have practice?
A: Practices will run unless noted by coaches.  Practices will not be rescheduled.
