Lacombe Festival

May. 29, 2023

On Sunday May 28, 2023, MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe was home to Field Hockey Alberta's Lacombe Junior Festival.  In attendance were over 175 athletes, 200 family members and 100 staff and volunteers, the day proved to be a special gathering for the field hockey community here in Alberta.

We would like to thank our volunteers who donated their time to deliver a first class event for our athletes and parents: Susan, Natasha, Barb, Stacey, Amy, Jason, Laurel, Lisa, David, Samantha, Kirsten, Paige, Alisha, Ash, Kiki, and Mike.

Special thanks to Ghurtej from Edmonton who worked tirelessly all day from 8:00am until 6:00pm.

We are grateful to the following people for helping to provide lunch and door prizes: Nadim, Melanie, Paige, Sean, Melissa and especially Sohail Abdullah, AA Sports, who generously donated the Tooney stick.

Our umpires deserve a medal for their dedication: Pam, Rebecca, Sandra, Dennis, Amy, Olivia, Gurminder, Kayal, Gigi, Kale, Zach, Prab, Patricia and Avery. With over 40 games it took some very creative scheduling by our umpire coordinator, Olivia, to ensure that all games had officials!

The weather for the day was full sun, 25C, but after 4 hours on the turf, with 10-15 athletes, the temperature may as well have been 50C, and our coaches were there with our athletes every step of the way.  Their dedication to the sport and the participants is saintly and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

Finally, thank you to our athletes and their parents for making the day so much fun!

Field Hockey Alberta Staff and Umpires are still hamming it up for the camera after 10 hours at Lacombe Festival.
