SPRING CJP SPECIAL SESSIONS

Glorious Goalies Registration Opens Friday April 26

An exciting program just for goalies including exclusive goalie coaching by national level goalies, gear, high performance guest practices, and a registration credit for 2019 fall fees (with qualifying participation).
Train on Hawkings Field at University of Calgary
Tuesdays from 7:00-8:15pm May 7 - June 18
FREE to CJP registered athletes.

Jr Coaching Program (U18s)

Learn how to coach Funstix and U12 athletes through NCCP Community Training Program.  Iincludes mentors, first aid training, lesson and game planning, safety awareness. This is great volunteer experience for your college applications!  Contact CJP Coordinator, Huyen Way, hwaycjp@gmail.com

U12/U14 Skills Registration Opens Friday April 26

Learn from the best!  Dino's Field Hockey varsity athletes will help you to improve your field hockey skills, including passing, receiving, dribbling and shooting.

U18 Intro to High Performance Skills Opens Friday April 26

Wonder what it takes to become an elite field hockey player? Train once a week (Tuesdays) with FHA and FHC High Performance Coaches to learn advanced skills and tactics.

FREE to CJP registered girls born between 2001 and 2004.

Umpire Pathway (u18 only)

U14 born between Jan 1 2005 and dec 31 2006

U12 born between Jan 1 2007 and May 1 2011 (athletes born in 2011 must have previous field hockey experience...)

Calgary U18 League

U18 League - Ages 14-17 (co-ed)

This league continues the reinforcement of basic skill while introducing advanced skills, systems and set-plays.  Participants will be provided with one practice a week, followed by weekly 11 vs 11 game.  Practices start the week of April 8 and the league will end June 23.  Beginners welcome!

Practices will be on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday nights (depending on the night you select).  Practices will be indoor in April and will move to outdoor venues for May & June. Games will be on Saturday or Sunday.

Red Deer festival is planned for June 9th and Calgary festival will be June 22.

Calgary U12/U14 League

U12/U14 League -Ages 8*-13 (co-ed)
*(8 year olds must have field hockey experience to participate in U12/U14 league, otherwise it is recommended they gain experience at Funstix)

This league focuses on basic skill development while introducing team tactics. Participants will be provided with one practice a week, followed by weekly game. League division and game format will be determined by number of registrants. Practices start the week of April 8 and the season runs until June 23. Beginners welcome!

Equipment

Athletes will need shorts, shoes suitable for running on turf (NOT cleats) and a field hockey stick. Please e-mail Huyen at hwaycjp@gmail.com if you would like to rent a stick for the season.
Mouth and shin guards must be worn at all times while players are participating in games or practice drills.

Calgary Junior League FAQ

Q: What equipment is required?
A: Athletes are required to wear a mouth guard and shin pads during practices and games.  A field hockey stick is also required and can be rented from the FHA office for the season, please let the league administrator know that you need a stick prior to your first practice.  A $50 deposit cheque is required for stick rental.  The cheque will not be cashed if the stick is returned at the end of the season.

T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, shorts and athletic pants are recommended for games and practices.  All participants will be provided with at T-shirt jersey for games and matching socks.  Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, games will go even if it is raining, they will only be cancelled for lightning.  Running shoes or field hockey turf shoes are required for games, please only wear cleats at practices/on grass facilities.  The University of Calgary Field Hockey turf is a turf shoe or running shoe facility only, cleats damage the surface.

Q: Where can mouth guards, shin pads or practice socks be purchased?
A: Most sporting good stores carry these items (Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Kicks, etc).  Call ahead to check availability.

Q: Can I select a specific practice night?
A: We will do our best to keep practice nights consistent when possible, but due to limited field availability there may be changes in practice nights.

Q: Where is the University of Calgary Field Hockey Turf located?

Q: It is game day and it is raining out, will there still be a game?
A: Games will run during the rain and light snow, they will be cancelled if there is lightning or the conditions become dangerous.

Q: It is raining and there is a practice scheduled, do we still have practice?
A: The league administrator may cancel practices in heavy rain as there may be field closures.  Practices will not be rescheduled.
