Fall 2019 Junior Skills Sessions


Calgary Junior Field Hockey Program is pleased to offer the following skills sessions for youth field hockey athletes.  Space is limited so register early.

U18 SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

Emphasis on refining foundational skills required to take it to the next level.  Focus will be on trapping, push passes, hitting, dribbling, 2v1, 3v2, defending  

target group: experienced U18s with proficient field hockey skills. Not appropriate for beginners. 

Space limited to 16 athletes. Athletes who miss more than two sessions will lose their position.

When:    Saturday mornings 9:00am-10:30am

Dates:    September 14 - October 26

               (no session Thanksgiving weekend)

Where:   Hawkings Field and Accurate field house 

Cost:      $50 nonrefundable registration fee

OWLS DEVELOPMENT

The Owls Program is designed to bridge the gap between grassroots and high performance. Focus will be on refining fundamental skills such as receiving, passing, hitting, dribbling, 2v1, 3v2  

Depending on numbers registered, groups may be divided by age (U12, U24) or skill level  

target group: girls born between 2005 and 2008 with some experience.  Age exceptions will be evaluated on a case by case basis 

Space limited to 16 athletes. Athletes who miss more than two sessions will lose their position.

When:    Saturday mornings 10:00am-11:30am

Dates:    September 14 - October 26

               (no session Thanksgiving weekend)

Where:   Hawkings Field and Accurate field house 

Cost:      $50 nonrefundable registration fee

JUNIOR BOYS SKILLS

Interested in developing your skills to be able to compete at a higher level?  This program will take an iterative approach to refining stick skills - passing, dribbling, and hitting. Some tactical skills with small group scrimmages.

target group: boys 12-16 years with solid field hockey foundation who are interested in working hard.  Age exceptions will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Space limited to 16 athletes.  Athletes who miss more than two sessions will lose their position.

When:    Saturday mornings 11:00am-12:30pm

Dates:    September 14 - October 26

               (no session Thanksgiving weekend)

Where:   Hawkings Field and Accurate field house 

Cost:      $50 nonrefundable registration fee

ABOUT OUR COACH

Nick Hignell grew up with field hockey. He was member of the Canadian Mens Field Hockey Team from 2010-2013.  Nick has worked with several Varsity level athletic programs including University of Western Ontario. Most recently, Nick led Alberta’s U18 Boys to the 2019 Canadian National Championships. As founder and technical director of Legacy Academy, Nick helps young athletes reach their high performance goals.
